Health equity, inclusion and diversity in medicine

Mission Statement:

  • To use our clinical and academic medical practice as a platform to enhance understanding of how systemic racism contributes to the social inequities affecting our patients inside and outside the healthcare system
  • To create an open environment to discuss ongoing inequities within our institution and the greater community and propel projects forward that will dismantle race-based medicine and institutional racism
  • To incorporate anti-racist teachings that expand the cultural sensitivity of providers into our formal education and daily practice
  • To recognize our privilege as physicians and educators to serve our community, particularly focusing on supporting vulnerable populations locally and abroad

Activities:

Health Equity Bookclub: Residents meet to discuss a book that is selected to broaden perspectives and promote thoughtful discussion that will challenge us all as physicians to reflect on the history of racism in medicine and, through doing so, shape us into stronger advocates for our patients and our community
